Microsoft Announces Project Scorpio, “Most Powerful Console”
Microsoft has officially announced their newest game console (besides the Xbox One S) – “Project Scorpio” and are calling it “the most powerful console ever.
The new console will be available Holiday 2017.
According to Microsoft, the console will run at a speed of six teraflops with both 4K gaming and “high-fidelity VR.” Many are speculating that the console will be based on AMD’s new Polaris GPU architecture and Zen APU, but no official specifications are confirmed – Microsoft just bragged about how great the graphics processing in the console is.
“I think it’s gunna be magical,” says Todd Howard from Bethesda.
The console will have 8 CPU cores, over 320GB/s of memory bandwidth, with 6 teraflops of GPU power. We don’t know who Microsoft is partnering with for VR, though Oculus is being rumored. We’ll have to wait and see.
This is now two different new consoles announced at E3, which really puts potential Xbox buyers in a very awkward position. Get the S now? Wait for Scorpio? Sell the original? Thank goodness most games will run on Windows 10.
