E3 2016 Day 7
Hello everyone! Welcome to Day 7 of our E3 blog. Obviously E3 is over by now, but we are continuing the week with our vacation! Today we went to Griffith Observatory and the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
We slept in a bit because we got home so late from Universal Studios Hollywood the day before. We arrived at Griffith Observatory by 2:00PM in the afternoon. By then, the main parking lot was full and we had to park on the road leading up to the observatory. We were in for quite the hike. It took about 30 minutes to walk uphill to the observatory in 85 degree fahrenheit (30 degree celsius) weather. Once at the top we stopped for water and a quick lunch. It was pretty mediocre tasting and not picture worthy. But hey- you don’t go for the food, you go for the views!
The Griffith Observatory is rated second in things to do in Los Angles according to thousands of people on Trip Advisor. Keeping this in mind, our expectation were high. The Griffith Observatory is a public observatory, planetarium, and exhibition space placed on the precipice of Mount Hollywood, overlooking LA from 1134 feet above sea level. The observatory has free admission, with a small fee for optional shows. While we were there, we viewed all exhibits and watched all three shows: Water is Life (our favourite), Light of the Valkyries (least favourite), and Centred in the Universe. All shows took place in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium. This was a large 290-seater planetarium with comfy reclining seats, and the screen encompassing 360 degrees in the planetarium dome. While the live-commentator was very good, we didn’t find the shows all that interesting, and are unsure if children would either. After all shows and all exhibits, including spending some time on the terrace, we had spent 3 hours there. While we originally wanted to watch the sunset from the observatory terrace, there was no way we would fill another 4 hours. We chose to hike downhill back to our car and spend the evening on Hollywood boulevard and the Walk of Fame.

We walked along the Hollywood Walk of Fame for a while until we came to the Hollywood and Highland Center shopping mall. For the rest of the evening, we walked around through the shops and went out for dinner at Trastevere, an Italian restaurant. We loved this place! While the service was only okay, the homemade pasta was very good.
Tomorrow is our last day, so we came back right after dinner to pack our bags. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s blog where we plan on going to an Art Museum since our flight is not until midnight. Thank you for reading! Have a great day!
