Dark Souls 3 Creator Already Working on Next Game, Demon’s Souls Remake Unlikely
Dark Souls 3 only launched a couple of weeks ago, but that hasn’t stopped series creator Hidetaka Miyazaki from confirming he’s already working on a new IP for FromSoftware.
In a report by Japanese website GNN during a media press conference to promote Dark Souls 3, Miyazaki is very candid in his responses discussing possible remakes of older games and future plans for DLC . Most surprising is that he all but confirmed that the new game he’s working on isn’t Dark Souls.
We’re still awaiting for an official translation but near the end of the interview he states.
“What is certain for now, is to me personally Dark Souls is over. So rather than make another sequel, I think it’s time we take a step to a new direction. Development of a new IP has already begun.”
New DLC and No Plans for Demon’s Souls Remake
- Miyazaki also confirmed there will be at least two DLC packs for Dark Souls 3. The first will arrive in Fall 2016 and the second in early 2017.
- When asked if FromSoftware had plans to remake the original Demon Souls that released exclusively on PlayStation 3 in 2009, he stated he’d rather “make something new.”
However, rumours that Dark Souls 3 would be the official end to the Souls franchise by FromSoftware might mean simply the end of this particular story arc. There is no information if Miyazaki’s next game will be Souls-esque in terms of gameplay and environment. With the commercial and critical success of the Dark Souls franchise, and considering the enormous costs of creating a completely new game, I don’t expect the new IP to stray too much from the formula.
