Destiny: Rise of Iron Expansion For Current Gen Only?!?!
Well someone couldn’t wait to spill the beans. Information regarding Destiny’s newest expansion Rise of Iron has leaked on Xbox Live ahead of its official announcement.
Destiny: Rise of Iron will launch on September 20, 2016, for PS4 and Xbox One (just in time to ruin my school year!….again….).
In addition to new story campaign and quests, this expansion will include:
- New Armor and Gear
- New Weapons
- New Raid
- New Strike
- Maximum Light Increase
- New Plaguelands Zone & Social Space
- New Crucible Mode & Maps
- New Enemy Faction and Bosses
But wait, PS4 and Xbox One only? It is unclear at this point as to whether the new expansion will:
- Be released afterwards for PS3 and Xbox 360; or
- Be backwards compatible.
If neither of those options comes to fruition, then players that have not upgraded from PS3 and Xbox 360 will have to shell out more money to re-purchase a game they’ve already bought; not cool Bungie, not cool.
However, for all players that already have it for PS4 and Xbox One, this will most likely be a good thing. If Bungie decides to release all future content on current gen consoles then that’ll mean that more resources will be directed towards optimizing gameplay for those consoles. As a result I would expect better graphics, cleaner interface, and all around smoother gameplay.
As was alluded to previously, you will need to have purchased The Taken King to play. As this information was leaked, not much else is known about the new expansion. However, a “Destiny Reveal Stream” is scheduled for June 9th (tomorrow) at 10:00 AM PST so you can expect to get much more insight including a first look at Destiny: Rise of Iron (hopefully an answer to backwards compatibility as well) within the next 24 hours. #hyped
