Destiny’s Leaked Rise of Iron Expansion Might Feature Raid Cut from House of Wolves
Those who follow me will know that I was a Destiny junkie. According to Time Wasted on Destiny I rank in the Top 8% of time played with over 1600 hours. However, I have been on a cleanse and have not logged on since January. The incremental additions post Taken King have not been enough to bring all three of my guardians out of stasis. I may be due for a relapse…
Today on Reddit, pictures leaked of seemingly official promotional posters entitled Destiny “Rise of Iron”. Kotaku has confirmed through its Bungie inside sources that Rise of Iron is indeed the next major expansion coming to Destiny’s galaxy. According to these sources it will feature a Fallen themed Raid (I personally was rooting for Cabal) and the overall expansion will be larger than ones previously released.
The timing of the new major expansion falls in line with previous years. Last year just prior to E3 it was leaked that the Taken King would be arriving soon. Sources were correct as the expansion was officially revealed during Sony’s Press Conference and came out later on September 15, 2015. With E3 just around the corner it is fair to speculate Rise of Iron will follow the same trajectory.
Examining the poster, some quick notes I made are that it features Lord Saladin, who is the prominent figure that carries players through Destiny’s monthly pvp centered activity called the Iron Banner. He is wielding a fiery axe and sporting a wolf cloak (The Hunter master race might take issue). He is also surrounded by a pack of wolves.
Given that the Raid is said to be Fallen themed, I speculate it might be cut content from the House of Wolves expansion. House of Wolves was Destiny’s second expansion released on May 19, 2015. It was widely criticized for not having a full six player Raid that was thought to be the standard with every major expansion. Instead players were given the “Prison of Elder’s”, a horde like mode that did not resonate nearly as well with fans. To be honest it was a pain in the ass that did not provide any worthwhile rewards.
Cut Raid or not, at least its something “new” in Destiny. Content is much needed, especially since it was confirmed earlier this year that Destiny 2 would not be coming out until 2017. Hey- maybe we’ll find out what really happened to Queen Mara Sov of the Awoken? I expect more info to come at E3 so I’ll keep you posted!
