Xbox One Price Permanently Dropped To $299 Ahead of Slim Rumours
According to the official Xbox website, Microsoft has permanently dropped the price of the Xbox One to $299 USD. In other regions, this converts to €299 in Europe and £279 in the UK. With the $50 price cut, the Xbox One is now the cheapest of the current generation of consoles.
The news is somewhat predictable because of rumours circulating of an upgraded Xbox One and a Slim model being announced at this year’s E3. I’m not that confident of the announcement of an upgraded Xbox One. But given the time into this generation of consoles, a slimmed down model makes perfect sense. Microsoft may be attempting to clear out supplies of existing SKUs.
This is not the first time the Xbox One has been available for $299. The console was temporally available at this price point during the 2015 Christmas holidays, and during Microsoft’s “Spring Sale.” However, this time, it looks like the $299 price point is here to stay.
The Xbox One originally launched on November 22, 2013, with a required bundled Kinect at $499. After launch sales stumbled the Kinect was dropped and the console received a $100 price cut to $399. This brought it to price parity of the PlayStation 4. The price was then further reduced to $350 during last year’s E3.
I will keep you updated as news comes in. As well Tara and I will be reporting directly at E3!
